Traffic and Public TransportationEveryone complains about traffic. It is important to understand that unless we make a commitment to allow new development to occur only in areas that have existing infrastructure to support it, traffic will get worse - not better. On the Council, Steve will be determined to ease our traffic problems by: a) Requiring that adequate infrastructure be in place prior to permitting additional development in areas that cannot support it. Doing so will greatly diminish the chance of traffic worsening. b) Supporting long term transit solutions, including the below ground Purple Line Metro, and the light rail within the Route 29 corridor - configured such that it not bifurcate Four Corners. c) Prioritizing long overdue upgrades for intersections, for example, grade separated interchanges. d) Advocating for increased usage of public transportation by placing a greater value and emphasis on the community’s input with regard to bus routes and schedules. e) Increasing the emphasis on comfort and convenience of the public transit riders. f) Considering dedicated bus lanes. g) Enlisting the help of our State legislators to make certain they secure Montgomery County’s fair share of State transportation dollars. h) Questioning our transit related expenses, for example, asking why we are we told by our elected officials that a single traffic light costs nearly two-hundred thousand dollars.
