Steve's Dedication to Children

Steve Kanstoroom has been donating his time, services and money to benefit children and their families for more than twenty-five years. He was blessed to have his first child in 2000 and his second child in 2003.

Steve first became active in children’s issues in1980. At that time he learned of World Vision – an international organization dedicated to helping the most impoverished children in the world. Steve became a World Vision supporter, donating his time, services and funds to help children in many countries with three meals per day, clothes and books for school, vocational training for their parents, and clean water for their villages. Steve donated computers services, software design and implementation to enhance World Vision’s fundraising efforts.

In the early nineties, Steve became instrumental in supporting the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (the “MNADV”) – the statewide coalition of domestic violence programs. With Steve’s donated support including systems, graphics, administrative and accounting, the MNADV became a powerful voice for victims of domestic violence. It drafted and passed scores of Bills in the Maryland Legislature, and played an integral role in the passage of the Federal Violence Against Women’s Act.

Steve also sponsored numerous state-wide advertising campaigns for the MNADV where he arranged partnerships with the Maryland State Police and the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention. The ad campaigns included billboards, full-page newspaper advertisements and printed materials in hospital emergency rooms which alerted the public, and continue to alert the public, to the warning signs of domestic violence.

Steve also designed, created, implemented and funded the Statewide Domestic Violence Hotline – 1 800 MD-Helps.
