Aging at HomeAfter decades of service, our seniors deserve our best. Too often they get far less from our government. Steve lost his single mom at an early age, and Steve was the sole caretaker of a dear woman in her final years – the same woman who cared for Steve while his mother worked and after his mother’s death. Steve knows, first-hand, many of the struggles that our seniors face. On the Council, Steve will make aging at home easier by: Fighting to maintain special transportation needs. Many seniors rely upon the County’s Call ‘N’ Ride program as well as the Ride On Busses and Metro Access. The programs are vital to our seniors being able to age at home, and Steve will work to maintain and expand these services.
Focusing on Special Assistance. Some seniors require special assistance from time to time, such as help with winter fuel bills, or desiring to make their voices heard by the County Council, yet are unable to travel to Rockville on short notice. Steve is a strong advocate of bringing the government to the people and believes that County services should be available at the regional service centers and unscripted town hall style meetings should be used to gather information in advance of drafting legislation. On the Council, Steve will rely upon his vast computer system’s experience to advocate using the County’s existing technology for alerting seniors to existing benefits of which they may not be aware. For example, by information on the County’s cable channels, traditional mail by way of other county notices such as property tax notices, bus backs and public service announcements. Steve would like to know your thoughts on these issues. Click here to share them with him.
